This is a traditional fishing method of Noto. During the egg-laying season in September and October, when the water temperature decreases, the common octopus comes to rocky areas to catch shellfish and crabs. People lure the octopus, using a bamboo rod with a lure attached, and catch it with a rake. It is easier to catch octopus in the morning and evening, since the temperature is lower. This type of fishing takes place on Akasaki Beach in Noto Town and on the west coast of northern Noto. You can experience it at Lovero Koiji; it is very popular among people of all ages.
