A portable shrine is carried from Hakui Shrine to Hachiman Shrine on the evening of September 14. This ritual is held to take the deity enshrined in Hakuri Shrine, Iwatsukuwake-no-mikoto, to his wife Mitarashihime-no-mikoto. The portable shrine is placed on a combined pair of boats at Konya Bridge, and carried up and down the river a few times between the bridge and Hachiman Shrine, which is 100m upstream, accompanied by Gion-bayashi music and a lion dance. Young men for whom there is not enough space on the boats push the boats in water up to their shoulders. The lion dance is also performed in the water with a lot of splashing. After carrying the portable shrine to Hachiman Shrine, the young men join shoulders and dance in a circle.
