This Shinto ritual of Shio-izumo Shrine, which has been conducted since 1900, is held on October 17. According to the document of origin, Yasumasa Ashikaga, a grandson of Yoshikatsu, started it to train young people in the area. Mt. Renge was a battlefield in the Genpei War. Sumo wrestlers from the provinces of Kaga, Noto and Ecchû gather at a special wrestling ring constructed at the foot of Mt. Renge. Tournaments for children and high school students, a ring-entrance ceremony, and singing of sumo chants are held as preliminary events. The traditional ritual for determining the champion is carried out late in the evening.
