Fishing for gibel using a throwing net is conducted from December through February in Ôchigata Lagoon of Hakui City. The main catch is Japanese crucian carp, and the size is 20~30cm to 50~60cm. In winter, it is considered to be tastier since its meat becomes hard and fatty. It is often prepared in local homes as sashimi or by grilling on skewers.
